The only mitigation tactic available to the public is to locate the pilot and have them safely land their drone.
Since December 2022 for new drones and September 2023 for existing ones, the FAA requires drones to broadcast identifying information and their location, known as Remote Identification, better known as Remote ID. This functions like a digital license plate for drones. The FAA started enforcing this rule in March 2024.
Penalties
Drone operators who conduct unsafe or unauthorized operations face fines up to $75,000 per violation, an increase included in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. The FAA also can suspend or revoke drone operators’ pilot certificates.
